Plant Care Tips

💙 Blue Chiffon Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Blue Chiffon') – Planting & Care Guide

How to Plant?

Choose a spot with well-drained soil and full sun to light shade for your Blue Chiffon Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Blue Chiffon'). Dig a hole twice the width and equal in depth to the root ball. Place the shrub so the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding ground. Backfill with soil, press gently, and water deeply to help roots settle and eliminate air pockets. 🌸🌱

Water Needs

After planting, water thoroughly to establish strong roots, keeping the soil evenly moist (but not soggy) for the first few weeks. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering. Once established, Blue Chiffon is moderately drought-tolerant. 💧🌺

Sunlight Requirements

Plant in full sun for the richest color and most abundant flowers. Aim for at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. While the shrub tolerates partial shade, fewer blooms and a looser shape may result. ☀️💙

Fertilizing

In early spring, apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to encourage healthy growth and profuse flowering. Alternatively, work a layer of compost into the soil around the base to enrich nutrients naturally. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excess leaf growth at the expense of blooms. 🌱✨

Pruning Tips

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins to remove dead or crossing branches and shape the plant. For heavier blooms and a neater form, lightly trim after the main flowering flush in mid to late summer. Regular pruning encourages a fuller shape and more prolific blooming each season. ✂️💙
