Plant Care Tips

🌱 Planting Instructions

Choose a well-drained location that receives full to partial sun. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly shallower in depth. Place the Burning Bush shrub upright with the top of the root ball just above ground level. Backfill with loose soil, pressing gently to remove air pockets, then water thoroughly. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk.

💧 Watering Tips

Water your Burning Bush regularly during the first growing season to help the roots establish. Once mature, it becomes moderately drought-tolerant. For container-grown plants, water more frequently and monitor soil moisture closely to prevent drying out.

☀️ Sunlight Needs

Burning Bush plants thrive in full sun to partial shade. Full sun helps maintain the best foliage color and overall plant vigor. Too much shade can reduce the intensity of the shrub’s signature red fall color.

🌿 Fertilizer Tips

Apply a slow-release, balanced fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth and vibrant color. Avoid excessive feeding, which can lead to leggy or uneven growth. Proper fertilization promotes dense foliage and rich fall color.

✂️ Pruning Guide

Prune Burning Bush shrubs in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Light trimming helps maintain the desired shape and size. These shrubs respond well to pruning and can be shaped into formal hedges or left to grow naturally for a more relaxed look.

❄️ Winter Care

Euonymus alatus is hardy in USDA Zones 4–8. Before winter, apply mulch around the base to insulate the roots, especially in colder regions. Mature plants typically need no additional winter protection, though newly planted shrubs may benefit from a light mulch cover during their first year.
