    Plant Care Tips

    🌿 Oakleaf Hydrangea Care Guide

    (Hydrangea quercifolia)

The Oakleaf Hydrangea is a resilient and elegant shrub that rewards minimal care with spectacular, year-round beauty. Follow these essential planting and maintenance tips to help your hydrangea thrive in your garden.

    🌱 Planting

Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-drained, fertile soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and slightly shallower than its depth. Place your Oakleaf Hydrangea carefully, fill the hole with soil, and water thoroughly. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

    💧 Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Check soil moisture about 2 inches below the surface—if it feels dry, water deeply. Water 1–2 times weekly during the growing season and increase frequency during hot or dry spells.

    🌸 Fertilizing

Feed your Oakleaf Hydrangea with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support strong growth and vibrant blooms. Avoid fertilizers high in nitrogen, as they encourage leaf growth at the expense of flowers.

    ✂️ Pruning

Prune immediately after flowering, only if needed to maintain the desired shape. Since Oakleaf Hydrangea blooms on old wood, avoid heavy pruning in late winter or early spring, which can remove next season’s flower buds. Remove any dead, weak, or crossing branches to promote good airflow and healthy growth.

    🌿 Additional Care Tips

✅ Ensure proper air circulation to prevent fungal issues.

✅ Mulch in winter to protect the roots from freezing temperatures.

✅ Deadhead faded blooms to maintain a neat appearance and encourage new growth.

By following these simple care steps, your Oakleaf Hydrangea will thrive for years to come—delighting you with its lush blooms, vibrant fall colors, and enduring elegance throughout every season.
