    Plant Care Tips

🍑 Prunus Santa Rosa – Planting & Care Guide

    🌱 How to Plant

Choose a sunny location with well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Remove the Santa Rosa Plum tree from its container and gently loosen the roots before planting. Position the tree so the graft union (the small bulge near the base) remains slightly above ground level. Backfill the hole with soil, press gently around the roots, and water deeply to eliminate air pockets.

    💧 Watering Instructions

During the first growing season, keep the soil consistently moist to help the roots establish. Once mature, Santa Rosa Plum trees are moderately drought-tolerant but benefit from regular watering during dry periods, particularly when fruiting. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot and fungal issues.

    ☀️ Light Requirements

Plant your Santa Rosa Plum in full sun, ensuring at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Adequate sunlight promotes strong flowering, improved fruit yield, and overall tree health. Trees grown in shade may produce fewer or smaller fruits.

    🌿 Fertilizer Guidelines

Feed your plum tree in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Apply it around the drip line rather than near the trunk. A light midsummer feeding can boost growth if needed, but avoid fertilizing after midsummer to prevent tender new shoots that are vulnerable to frost damage.

    ✂️ Pruning Advice

Prune Santa Rosa Plum trees during winter dormancy to improve airflow and reduce disease risk. Remove dead, crossing, or overcrowded branches to maintain structure and encourage healthy fruiting. Lightly shape the tree after harvest and clear fallen fruit to prevent pests and fungal problems.
