    Plant Care Tips

🌸 How to Plant, Grow & Care for an Althea Ardens Rose of Sharon Tree?

Enhance your garden with the Althea Ardens Tree, also known as Ardens Rose of Sharon or
Hibiscus syriacus ‘Ardens’. This elegant flowering tree showcases rich double purple blooms with ruffled petals from midsummer through fall, creating a stunning feature in any landscape. Its lush green foliage and abundant blooms bring color, texture, and charm to patios, borders, or garden beds. Follow these simple steps to help your Althea Ardens Rose of Sharon Tree thrive, bloom profusely, and provide years of beauty.

    🌿 Planting Instructions

Select a sunny, well-drained spot for your Althea Ardens tree. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and position the tree so the top of the roots align with the surrounding soil. Backfill with fertile soil, gently firming it to remove air pockets. Water deeply after planting, then add a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base to preserve moisture and protect the roots.

🪴 Pro Tip: The Ardens Hibiscus Tree thrives in full sun and warm conditions, so pick a location with bright light and good airflow to maximize bloom production.

    💧 Watering Tips

Water your Althea Ardens tree thoroughly 1–2 times per week during the first growing season. Let the top inch of soil dry slightly between waterings to encourage deep root growth. Once established, the Double Purple Hibiscus Tree tolerates occasional drought, but regular moisture during the summer ensures lush foliage and abundant flower clusters.

    ☀️ Sunlight Requirements

Plant the Ardens Rose of Sharon Tree in full sun — at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily — for the best flower density and rich purple color. Bright sunlight highlights the intricate double blooms against the vibrant green foliage, making your garden stand out from midsummer through fall.

    🌾 Fertilization Tips

Feed your Hibiscus syriacus ‘Ardens’ in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support vigorous growth and heavy flowering. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of blooms. For natural enrichment, spread compost or organic matter around the base each year to improve soil health and fertility.

    ✂️ Pruning Guide

Prune your Althea Ardens tree in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Remove dead, damaged, or crowded branches to enhance airflow and maintain a tidy shape. Since Ardens Rose of Sharon blooms on new wood, light pruning encourages strong growth and more prolific flowering. Regular pruning helps retain its upright, compact form, keeping the tree attractive throughout the season.

    ❄️ Winter Care

The Althea Ardens Tree is hardy in USDA Zones 5–9 and withstands most winter conditions. In colder climates, add 3–4 inches of mulch around the root zone in late fall to insulate against frost. Avoid pruning in late fall, as fresh cuts can be damaged by cold. Come spring, your Double Purple Hibiscus tree will return with lush foliage and abundant blooms.
