    Plant Care Tips

🌺 How to Plant, Grow & Care for an Althea Double Purple Blooms Tree

Transform your garden into a display of royal color with the Althea Double Purple Blooms Tree, also known as the Double Purple Rose of Sharon Tree or
Hibiscus syriacus ‘Double Purple’. This elegant flowering tree dazzles with deep, double-layered purple blossoms that last from midsummer through fall. Follow these easy planting and care tips to keep your purple Althea tree healthy, vigorous, and full of blooms year after year.

    🌿 Planting Instructions

Select a sunny to partially shaded location with well-drained soil for your Double Purple Althea Tree. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and position the tree upright with the top of the root ball level with the ground. Refill with loose soil, pressing gently to remove air pockets, and water thoroughly after planting. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk to prevent rot.

    💧 Watering Tips

During the first growing season, water your Purple Rose of Sharon Tree deeply once or twice a week, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering sessions. Consistent deep watering encourages healthy root growth and continuous flower production. Once established, the Double Purple Althea becomes moderately drought-tolerant, though extra watering during hot or dry weather helps enhance its lush summer blooms.

    ☀️ Sunlight Requirements

The Double Purple Rose of Sharon Tree performs best in full sun but tolerates partial shade. Aim for 6 or more hours of direct sunlight each day to maximize bloom size, color intensity, and overall growth. In sunny spots, you’ll enjoy a dense canopy and abundant, ruffled purple flowers that make an eye-catching statement in any garden, yard, or patio space.

    🌾 Fertilization Tips

Feed your Althea Double Purple Blooms Tree in early spring using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support vigorous growth and flowering. Avoid fertilizing too late in the season, as tender new shoots could be affected by winter frost. Enrich the soil yearly with organic compost or leaf mulch to keep it nutrient-rich and well-aerated for optimal root health and bloom quality.

    ✂️ Pruning Guide

Prune your Double Purple Althea Rose of Sharon Tree in late winter or early spring before new buds emerge. Remove any dead or crowded branches to improve airflow and shape the canopy. This variety naturally grows in a well-rounded, upright form, so only light pruning is needed. Proper trimming promotes fresh blooms, maintains structure, and prevents overcrowding during the growing season.

    ❄️ Winter Care

Hardy in USDA Zones 5–9, the Purple Althea Tree needs minimal winter protection. In colder regions, apply a thicker mulch layer around the base before winter to protect the roots from freezing temperatures. Once established, this hardy hibiscus shrub returns each spring with lush foliage and brilliant double purple flowers that brighten your landscape.
