Plant Care Tips

🌸 How to Plant, Grow & Care for a Brick House Rose Shrub

The Brick House Rose Shrub, part of the Rosa ‘Brick House' series, is valued for its vivid brick-red blooms that continue to appear from spring until frost. This compact rose is known for its excellent disease resistance, tidy growth habit, and long flowering season, making it a dependable plant for front yards, borders, along walkways, and container gardens. It brings bold color with very manageable care, making it a great addition for gardeners of all skill levels.

With its naturally full form and continuous flowering, the Brick House Rose offers beauty that lasts through the warm season without needing heavy pruning or constant maintenance.

🌿 Planting Instructions:

Choose a planting site that receives full sun and has well-drained soil. Dig a hole a bit wider than the container. Place the Brick House Rose Shrub on a rock so that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Fill the hole back with the same soil you removed, water thoroughly, and apply a light mulch layer to help retain moisture.

🪴 Pro tip:

Good air circulation helps keep rose foliage looking clean and vibrant - avoid planting it too close to other shrubs.

💧 Watering tips

Water deeply once or twice per week during the first season to help roots establish. After it settles in, the Brick House Rose is fairly water-efficient. During long stretches of heat, occasional deep soaking helps support continuous flowering and healthy foliage.

☀️ Sunlight requirements.

The Brick House Rose performs best in full sun, ideally 6-8 hours daily.
Plenty of sun keeps the blooms richly colored and encourages steady reblooming throughout the summer.

🌾 Fertilization tips

Feed the shrub in early spring with a rose-formulated slow-release fertilizer or compost.
If the plant is blooming heavily, a mid-season feeding may help maintain its strong, repeated flowering.
Avoid over-fertilizing - too much fertilizer can lead to leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

✂️ Pruning Guide

Perform pruning in late winter or very early spring. Remove any damaged or crossed stems, then shape the plant lightly to maintain a rounded, compact habit. The Brick House Rose blooms on new growth, so pruning encourages more flowers.
Deadheading is optional - this shrub reblooms well even without it.

❄️ Winter care

Hardy in USDA Zones 5-9, the Brick House Rose can remain outdoors year-round.
Apply a 3-4-inch mulch layer at the base in late fall to insulate the root system.
Avoid pruning in late fall, as new cuts are more vulnerable to cold and injury.
