Plant Care Tips

🍇 Concord Seeded Grape – Planting & Care Guide

🌱 How to Plant?

Choose a sunny location in your garden with well-draining soil that is slightly acidic, ideally with a pH between 5.0 and 6.5. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the grapevine’s root system to allow roots to spread easily. Place the crown of the vine level with the surrounding soil, then backfill the hole using compost-enriched soil for added nutrients. Water deeply immediately after planting to help the roots settle. Install a trellis, arbor, or sturdy fence at planting time to properly support new vine growth as it develops.

💧 Watering Needs

During the first growing season, keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water regularly so the soil does not fully dry out or remain soggy. Once the Concord Seeded Grape vine is established, water only when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot and maintain healthy vines.

☀️ Sunlight Requirements

Ensure your Concord Seeded Grape vine receives 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day for optimal fruit sweetness and high yields. Avoid shaded locations or areas prone to late frosts, as insufficient sunlight and cold exposure can negatively impact vine health and fruit production.

🌿 Feeding the Vine

Beginning in the second year, fertilize grapevines every early spring with a balanced fertilizer such as 10-20-20. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, as excessive nitrogen encourages leafy growth at the expense of fruit development.

✂️ Pruning Tips

Prune your Concord grapevine in late winter while the plant is dormant. Remove weak, old, or overcrowded canes to improve structure and airflow. Use spur pruning by cutting canes back to a few healthy buds, which helps reduce disease risk and promotes larger, healthier grape harvests.
