Plant Care Tips

🌱 Planting Instructions

Choose a garden location with full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and slightly deeper than the plant’s root system. Place the shrub in the hole so the root area sits level with the surrounding ground. Backfill with loosened soil, gently pressing to remove air pockets. Water generously after planting. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch a few inches away from the main stem.

💧 Watering Coaching Tips

During the first year, keep the soil evenly moist by watering once or twice per week. Once the plant is established, water only when the top layer of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering, especially in clay-heavy soils. For container-grown plants, ensure proper drainage to prevent soggy roots.

☀️ Sunlight Requirements

This viburnum shrub grows best with at least 4–6 hours of sunlight per day. While it tolerates partial shade, increased sun exposure generally results in stronger growth and more abundant blooms.

🌿 Fertilizer Tips

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy foliage and flowering. Avoid late-season feeding, as it may cause tender growth that can be damaged by early frost.

✂️ Pruning Guide

Prune the Common Snowball Viburnum after flowering in late spring or early summer. Remove dead or damaged branches and lightly shape the plant to maintain its natural structure. Avoid heavy pruning in late fall or winter, as this may reduce next season’s blooms.

❄️ Winter Care

Hardy in Zones 3–8, this viburnum bush can withstand cold winters with minimal protection. In areas with harsh winds, apply mulch at the base and consider wrapping younger plants in burlap to shield them from extreme cold.
