Plant Care Tips

🌸 Daphne Pink – Planting & Care Instructions

🌱 How to Plant

Pick a spot with well-drained, slightly acidic soil and dappled sunlight or light afternoon shade. Dig a hole twice as wide and of the same depth as the plant’s container. Gently remove the plant, keeping the roots intact. Place the plant straight in the hole and fill it back with loose soil. Water well and apply mulch, keeping it a few inches away from the stem to avoid rot.

💧 Watering Instructions

After planting, water deeply to settle the soil. Maintain consistent moisture in the soil without making it soggy during the first growing season. Once the plant is established, water when the top inch of the soil feels dry. Daphne dislikes both drought and overwatering.

☀️ Light Requirements

Daphne Pink grows best in partial shade. Bright morning sun with protection from harsh afternoon rays is ideal. Too much sun can scorch the leaves, while too much shade may reduce blooming.

🌿 Fertilizer Guidelines

Feed your Daphne in early spring using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer that supports flowering shrubs. Avoid higher-nitrogen formulas and stop feeding in late summer to avoid tender growth before winter.

✂️ Pruning Advice

Minimal pruning is needed. Once blooming ends, snip off faded flowers and lightly prune to keep the plant in shape. Always use clean, sharp tools, and avoid heavy cuts as Daphne can be sensitive to hard pruning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Daphne Pink plant fragrant?
Yes! Daphne Pink (Daphne odora) is famous for its intensely fragrant pink blooms, especially in late winter to early spring. Its pleasant fragrance can spread throughout the whole garden.
Where should I plant my Daphne Pink?
Plant it in partial shade in well-drained soil. Avoid planting in soggy or dense clay soil, as Daphne roots are sensitive to too much moisture. A sheltered spot in the morning sun is ideal.
Is Daphne Pink evergreen?
Yes, Daphne odora is an evergreen shrub, which means it keeps its glossy green leaves all year, offering garden structure even when not in bloom.
What USDA zones is Daphne Pink best suited for?
Daphne Pink grows best in USDA Zones 7–9, where winters are mild and summers aren't too hot. It may need protection in colder climates.
How tall and wide does a Daphne Pink plant grow?
At maturity, Daphne Pink typically grows 3 to 4 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide, forming a neat, rounded shape perfect for foundation planting or near walkways.
Is Daphne Pink toxic to pets or humans?
Yes, every part of the plant is poisonous if eaten, particularly to pets and young children. Always plant it in a safe location and wash your hands after handling it.
Can I grow Daphne Pink in a pot?
Absolutely! It grows well in a spacious container that offers proper drainage. Use acidic or neutral potting soil, and avoid root disturbances when transplanting.
Why is my Daphne plant turning yellow or dropping leaves?
This could be due to overwatering or poor drainage. Daphne dislikes “wet feet.” Ensure the soil drains well and the root ball isn’t sitting in the water.
When does Daphne Pink bloom?
It blooms in late winter to early spring, producing clusters of beautiful pink flowers with a rich fragrance, often when little else is blooming.
How do I prune my Daphne Pink shrub?
Minimal pruning is best. Only trim lightly after flowers to maintain shape. Avoid heavy cuts, as Daphne doesn't respond well to aggressive pruning.
