Plant Care Tips

🌼 Double Blooming Gardenia Tree – Planting & Care Guide

🌱 Planting Instructions

Choose a location with morning sun and afternoon shade, and fertile, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 5.0–6.5).

Dig a hole twice as wide and as deep as the root ball. Gently remove the Gardenia from its container, loosen the roots, and set the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with a mix of native soil and organic matter, press lightly, and water deeply to help roots establish.

πŸ’§ Watering Guidelines

Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy during the first growing season. Once established, water when the top inch of soil feels dry β€” typically every 5–7 days, or more frequently in extreme heat. Avoid both drought and overwatering, as either can affect blooms and root health.

Keywords: gardenia care, fragrant flower tree, watering gardenia

β˜€οΈ Light Requirements

Plant your Double Blooming Gardenia Tree in a spot that receives 4–6 hours of bright, indirect or filtered sunlight each day. Gardenias thrive with some direct sun, but harsh afternoon rays in hot climates can scorch leaves and reduce flowering. For best results, provide morning sunlight with light afternoon shade to encourage lush foliage and abundant double white blooms.

🌿 Fertilizing Tips

Feed your Gardenia in early spring using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer designed for acid-loving plants such as azaleas or camellias (e.g., 10-10-10). In poor soils, a second light feeding in mid-summer encourages more blooms. Stop fertilizing by late summer to prevent tender new growth that could be damaged by cold weather.

βœ‚οΈ Pruning Advice

Prune your Double Blooming Gardenia Tree in late winter or right after flowering. Remove any dead, weak, or crossing branches, and trim back spent blooms to enhance air circulation and maintain shape. Light pruning after blooming keeps the plant compact, healthy, and full of vibrant new growth for the next season.
