    Plant Care Tips

    Planting

Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil for the best flowering. Dig a hole about twice as wide as the root ball, set the crown just below the soil surface (1–2 inches deep), backfill firmly, and water thoroughly. Space Autumn Red Daylilies 18–24 inches apart to allow proper air circulation and clump expansion.

    Watering

Water deeply once or twice a week during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, Hemerocallis ‘Autumn Red’ is drought-tolerant and requires only occasional watering. Avoid soggy soils, as standing water may lead to root issues.

    Sunlight

The Autumn Red Daylily requires 6–8 hours of sunlight a day to grow well. In extremely hot climates, a little afternoon shade can help protect the foliage and maintain vibrant flower color.

    Fertilizer

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer or compost in early spring as new growth emerges. Apply a light dose of fertilizer after the first bloom cycle to promote additional flowering. Avoid over-fertilization, which can lead to excess foliage and fewer flowers.

    Pruning & Maintenance

Remove spent blooms (deadhead) to encourage more flowering. After the flowering season, cut back the yellowing foliage to tidy up the plant. In late fall or early spring, trim leaves to the ground to promote healthy new growth. Divide the clumps every 3–4 years to keep them vigorous and prevent crowding.
