    Plant Care Tips

    Planting

Kousa Dogwoods grow best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Choose a location with partial shade or full sun. Dig a hole twice as wide and as deep as the root ball. Plant the tree slightly above ground level, backfill, and water thoroughly.

    Watering

Water deeply once a week during the first growing season. Once established, the tree is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering, especially during dry periods.

    Fertilizing

Apply a light, balanced slow-release fertilizer (10-10-10) in early spring. Avoid over-fertilizing to encourage healthy growth and optimal blooming.

    Mulching

Apply 2–3 inches of organic mulch around the base of the tree, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk. Mulching helps retain soil moisture and prevents weed competition.

    Pruning

Minimal pruning is required. Remove dead, damaged, or crossed branches in late winter. Light shaping after flowering can enhance the tree’s form.
