Plant Care Tips

🌱 Planting Instructions

Purple crape myrtles should be planted in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Place the Crepe Myrtle Tree on level ground, in loose, rich soil. Mulch should be kept away from the trunk base by 2 to 3 inches to prevent rot.

💧 Watering Tips

Water your crepe myrtle deeply once or twice weekly during its first growing season. Crape myrtles can survive drought once they mature, but in dry periods, they may need regular deep watering. Check soil moisture regularly for potted trees.

☀️ Sunlight Needs

The purple crape myrtle requires full sun for flowering and leaf growth, 6–8 hours daily. Sun exposure promotes abundant blooms and healthy development. Partial shade is acceptable, but crepe myrtles thrive best in full sun.

🌿 Fertilizer Tips

Use a balanced fertilizer in early spring to support strong blooms and lush foliage. Avoid late-season feeding to prevent frost-sensitive growth. Proper crepe myrtle care ensures long-lasting summer and fall color.

✂️ Pruning Guide

Crape myrtles should be pruned in early spring or late winter before new growth begins. Improve airflow and shape by removing dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Maintaining the tree's natural form is key to effective Crepe Myrtle Tree care—avoid excessive pruning.

❄️ Winter Care

USDA Zones 7–10 are ideal for purple crape myrtles. In cooler climates, mulch around the base of young trees to prevent roots from freezing. This helps keep your Purple Crape Myrtle healthy throughout the winter season.
