Plant Care Tips

Shasta Doublefile Viburnum – Planting & Care Guide 🌿

🌱 Planting Instructions

The Shasta Doublefile Viburnum shrub should be planted in a sunny to partially shaded location with well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Prepare a planting hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth. Position the shrub so the root crown sits level with the ground. Fill the hole with loose garden soil and gently press to remove air pockets.

💧 Watering Tips

Water your Shasta Doublefile Viburnum regularly during the first year to establish strong, deep roots. A weekly deep soak is recommended, especially during dry periods. For container-grown plants, check soil moisture more frequently and ensure excess water drains well to prevent waterlogging.

☀️ Sunlight Requirements

This flowering Viburnum thrives in full sun to part shade. For healthy growth and abundant blooms, provide at least 4–6 hours of sunlight daily. While it tolerates partial shade, more sun encourages better flowering and lush foliage.

🌿 Fertilizer Tips

Feed your Shasta Doublefile Viburnum in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer suitable for shrubs. This promotes strong spring growth and plentiful blooms. Avoid fertilizing late in the season, as young growth may be damaged by winter frosts.

✂️ Pruning Guide

Prune after flowering in late spring to maintain the natural layered form. Remove dead, weak, or overcrowded branches to improve air circulation and encourage next year’s blooms. Light thinning also keeps the shrub looking neat and structured.

❄️ Winter Care

Shasta Doublefile Viburnum thrives in USDA Zones 5–8. In colder climates, protect young shrubs with extra mulch around the root zone. In harsh winter conditions, consider burlap wrapping to shield branches from strong winds and ice. Container-grown plants should be moved to a sheltered area during freezing temperatures.
