Plant Care Tips

🌱 Planting Instructions

It is important to choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Place the plant at the same depth as it was grown in the nursery by digging a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Backfill gently, firm the soil, and water deeply after planting.

💧 Watering Tips

The first growing season is the best time to establish your roots by watering regularly. Crape myrtle plants are drought-tolerant once established, but they require deep watering during long periods of drought.

☀️ Sunlight Requirement

It is best to keep Tonto in full sun. For healthy growth and maximum flowering, at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight is necessary.

🌸 Fertilizer Tips

In early spring, apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which promotes leafy growth instead of flowering.

✂️ Pruning Guide

Minimal cutting is required. Remove branches that are dead or crossing in late winter or early spring. Top lightly to maintain the plant’s natural form.

❄️ Seasonal and Winter Care

Mulch around the base of the plant to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature. Mature crape myrtle trees are cold hardy in the recommended zones.
