    Plant Care Tips

    🌿 Planting Instructions

For best results, pick a sunny location with well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep as the container. Position the tree so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with loose soil, gently firming it to remove air pockets. Water deeply after planting, then apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds—keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk.

    💧 Watering Tips

During the first year, water your Bordeaux Fig Tree deeply once or twice a week to help the roots establish. Once mature, the tree becomes more drought-tolerant and needs less frequent watering. During extended dry periods or while fruit is developing, water when the soil feels dry a few inches below the surface. Container-grown fig trees may require more frequent watering due to faster soil drying.

    ☀️ Sunlight Needs

The Bordeaux Fig Tree performs best in full sun, requiring 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal growth and fruit production. In cooler climates, planting in a south-facing location can help extend the growing season.

    🌿 Fertilizing Tips

Feed your fig tree in early spring with a balanced fertilizer formulated for fruit trees to support healthy new growth and fruit development. Avoid heavy fertilization late in the season, as it may encourage tender growth that can be damaged by winter frost.

    ✂️ Pruning Guide

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove dead, weak, or crossing branches to improve airflow and sunlight penetration. Light annual pruning helps keep the tree compact and productive, especially when grown in small spaces or containers.

    ❄️ Cold Protection

Hardy in USDA Zones 7–10, the Bordeaux Fig Tree tolerates mild winters. In colder regions or during unexpected freezes, apply mulch around the root zone to insulate the roots. Move container-grown trees to a sheltered location, such as a garage or covered patio, during freezing temperatures to prevent root damage.
