    Plant Care Tips

🌸 How to Plant, Grow & Care for an Althea Diana Rose of Sharon Tree

Brighten your landscape with the Althea Diana Tree, also known as Diana Rose of Sharon or Hibiscus Syriacus ‘Diana’. This graceful flowering tree is admired for its pure single white blooms that appear steadily from midsummer through fall. The clean, crisp petals stand out beautifully against the deep green foliage, giving your garden a peaceful, elegant, and refreshing look. Whether planted near patios, walkways, borders, or as a standalone focal tree, the Diana Hibiscus Tree delivers timeless charm with very little maintenance.

    🌿 Planting instructions

Choose a sunny, well-drained location for your Althea Diana. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and set the plant so that the top of the roots sit level with the soil surface. Fill the hole back with enriched soil, gently firming it to eliminate air gaps. Water thoroughly after planting, then add 2-3 inches of mulch around the base to retain moisture and protect the roots.

    🪴 Pro tip:

The Diana Rose of Sharon performs best when planted in full sunlight with good airflow - this encourages strong branches and abundant blooming.

    💧 Watering tips

Water your Diana Althea shrub deeply 1–2 times per week during its first year. Allow the upper soil to dry slightly between waterings to promote a deep, strong root system. Once established, this white rose from the Sharon tree is very drought-tolerant, but watering during the hot summer weeks encourages full blooms and lush foliage.

    ☀️ Sunlight requirements

For the best flowering, plant your Hibiscus Syriacus Diana in full sun, ideally receiving 6+ hours of direct light daily. Sunlight enhances the crisp whiteness of the flowers and keeps the plant growing compact and upright.

    🌾 Fertilization tips

Feed your Diana Hibiscus in early spring using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer or a layer of compost. Avoid over-fertilization, as excess nitrogen encourages leaf growth but reduces blooms. Annual topdressing with organic compost helps improve soil structure and long-term plant health.

    ✂️ Pruning Guide

Prune your Diana Rose of Sharon tree in late winter or early spring while the plant is still dormant. Remove any weak or crossed branches and shape lightly to maintain a tidy, rounded form. Since Diana blooms on new wood, thoughtful pruning encourages stronger growth and more abundant flowers the following season.

    ❄️ Winter care

Hardy in USDA Zones 5-9, the Althea Diana Tree tolerates cold winters well. In areas with severe freezes, add 3-4 inches of mulch around the base in late fall for root insulation. Avoid pruning in autumn to prevent cold damage to new growth. Expect fresh leaves and blooms to reappear each spring.
