    Plant Care Tips

🌿 Planting & Care – Royal Fern (Osmunda regalis)

    Planting

Choose a site with moist, fertile soil that drains well. Royal Fern thrives in partial to full shade, especially near ponds, streams, or woodland beds. Allow 2–3 feet of spacing to let the clumps mature naturally.

    Watering

This fern prefers soil that stays evenly moist. During dry periods, provide regular water and use mulch to help lock in moisture around the roots.

    Sunlight

Best grown in shady or filtered light conditions. Strong afternoon sun can damage the fronds, so a protected shady spot is ideal.

    Fertilizer

In spring, enrich the soil with organic compost or a balanced slow-release fertilizer to support lush new fronds.

    Maintenance

Royal Fern requires little care. Cut away old fronds in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Every few years, divide established clumps to refresh growth. This hardy fern is also deer-resistant, making it suitable for woodland and shade gardens.
